Families across Pine Level, Marbury, Deatsville, and surrounding communities are being asked to conserve water after the Marbury Water System announced an emergency conservation plan in response to a temporary reduction in its water supply.

The shortage began after the system’s primary supplier took one of its 2-million-gallon storage tanks offline for rehabilitation, reducing the amount of water available to Marbury Water by approximately half. The utility normally purchases between 800,000 and 1 million gallons of water per day.

Residents with questions are invited to attend a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the Pine Level Community Center.

Under Phase 3 of the conservation plan, customers are asked to use water only for essential needs such as drinking, cooking, bathing, laundry, and watering animals. Residents are asked to avoid washing vehicles, homes, and driveways, filling swimming pools, and watering lawns.

Small vegetable gardens and flowers may be watered once a week for two hours. Even-numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays, while odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays.

Marbury Water officials said they received confirmation of the maintenance schedule on May 16 after being told in March that repairs would occur sometime this summer.

“We understand that this was extremely short notice,” the utility said in a statement to customers. “Our main goal is to make sure that our customers have enough water for their everyday needs.”

The utility said it continues to pursue long-term solutions, including a $2 million grant to drill test wells and plans for a treatment plant that would restore an existing well and provide additional capacity for future growth.

Zachary Bigley said the meeting will give customers a chance to hear directly from Marbury Water representatives.

“As the town mayor, we have a lot of concerned citizens,” Bigley said. “This affects Pine Level, Marbury, Deatsville, and even into Chilton County a little bit. It is a big water system.”

“I hope that we can have a very productive dialogue and we can come to a quick solution that can help our community to move forward,” Bigley said.

As summer temperatures rise, local leaders are asking residents to do their part to conserve water so families throughout the region continue to have access to this essential resource.

Pine Level Elementary School was named a CLAS School of Distinction for its innovative project, “Cultivate More” – an outdoor garden that grows more than plants and food. The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools honor highlights the school’s commitment to engaging students through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect academic content to the real world.

At Pine Level Elementary School, students grow more than just plants — they cultivate curiosity, responsibility, and pride. The school’s outdoor classroom is more than a garden; it is a living laboratory where science, math, and literacy come alive. Every seed planted grows more than food — it helps develop confident, capable learners prepared for success.

The outdoor classroom and garden program was designed to meet a critical need for experiential learning opportunities. What began as a simple effort to get students outside has blossomed into a comprehensive, school-wide initiative. Serving as a dynamic extension of core instruction, the garden transforms traditional lessons into active exploration as students observe ecosystems, monitor weather patterns, and study plant life cycles in authentic settings. This approach strengthens academic achievement while fostering environmental stewardship and a deeper understanding of how human actions impact the natural world.

Beyond academics, the program nurtures essential life skills. Students collaborate to solve problems, demonstrate patience as they monitor plant growth, and take responsibility through daily maintenance. These experiences cultivate resilience, encourage a growth mindset, and instill pride as students nurture plants from seed to harvest.

“Receiving the CLAS School of Distinction recognition is a tremendous honor for our school,” said Christen Harry, principal of Pine Level Elementary School. “Our outdoor classroom allows students to engage in ways not possible in a traditional classroom setting. We are proud to see our students grow not only academically, but also as responsible and confident individuals.”

Students actively participate in the program’s signature seed-to-table cycle, harvesting what they grow, practicing safe food preparation, and participating in tasting events. These experiences connect nutrition, science, and wellness in one powerful initiative that supports student well-being across all grade levels.

Pine Level Elementary School earned an A+ state report card score with 100% academic growth, and teachers consistently observe students applying the skills they learn in the garden to their work in the classroom.

By merging rigorous academic standards with real-world application, Pine Level Elementary School has created a sustainable model of experiential education. The outdoor classroom has become an integral part of the school’s instructional approach, ensuring that students are not only meeting standards but also becoming prepared, confident learners ready for their futures.

The Autauga County Commission on Monday celebrated the opening of a new recreational facility at Liberty Fields at Pine Level Park, marking a milestone in community development and honoring the county’s role in America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held in partnership with the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce and local stakeholders, highlighted the park as a long-anticipated addition aimed at improving the quality of life in one of the county’s fastest-growing areas.

“I have had a few people ask me, ‘Why the name Liberty Fields?’” Commission Chairman Jay Thompson said. “Liberty is more than a word or a piece of history; it is a living idea. It thrives in open fields, in open hearts, in our hometowns, and along our highways. It is found in the laughter of our children, the cheers of our communities, and the moments when neighbors come together.”

Thompson said the name also honors generations of Americans who have defended the nation’s freedoms, calling it a tribute to their sacrifice and service.

The event was part of the nation’s semi-quincentennial celebration and recognized the community as home to a newly planted Liberty Tree. The project took 15 years to complete and cost $2.08 million, including $1,019,616 in funding from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, matched by $1,080,384 from the county.

Kenneth Boswell, director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, spoke on behalf of Gov. Kay Ivey, emphasizing the significance of the park for future generations.

“As we approach our nation’s 250th birthday, how great it is to be at a ribbon cutting where our young children can enjoy the future,” Boswell said. “There are a lot of things that can be learned on and off that field.”

State Rep. Ivan “Van” Smith also addressed attendees, calling the project a testament to long-term planning and community collaboration.

“This park is more than an athletic field or equipment,” Smith said. “It represents vision, partnership, and a deep commitment to our youth and this community.”

Liberty Fields is also home to a Princeton Elm designated as a Liberty Tree, planted as part of the America 250 initiative. The tree is intended to serve as a lasting symbol of the nation’s founding ideals and a reminder of the importance of civic responsibility. When fully grown, it is expected to reach heights of 60 to 70 feet.

Officials said the park and its symbolic tree reflect both the community’s growth and its connection to the nation’s history, offering a space where residents can gather, play, and celebrate for generations to come.

The Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department (PLVFD) accepted delivery of seven new Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), Jan. 16, 2026, following a $33,000 grant from the Town of Pine Level in August 2025.

With the new equipment, every front-line PLVFD fire vehicle will now be equipped with an updated AED, improving life-saving care during medical emergencies.

“We respond to about 1,300 calls a year, and roughly 80% of those are emergency medical services,” said PLVFD Chief Austin Worchester. “This contribution allows us to continue providing that service while also improving it.”

Town leaders said the investment reflects Pine Level’s commitment to public safety while preserving the close-knit, small-town character of the community.

“We’re grateful the Town of Pine Level was able to provide this $33,000 grant to support our volunteer fire department,” said Mayor Zachary Bigley. “If this equipment saves even one life, it’s worth every penny. The town council and I are honored to support such an outstanding department.”

PLVFD says the remaining funds from the grant have been used to purchase a full set of basic life support equipment for their front-line fire apparatus.

The event will begin with a Christmas parade at 4 p.m., starting at Spirit Walk Church on Highway 107 and ending at the Pine Level Community Center. Following the parade, families can enjoy arts and crafts, food vendors, a visit from Santa, and a live nativity scene featuring a petting zoo.

Guests will also be able to pick up complimentary s’mores kits and roast marshmallows at fire pits staffed by the Pine Level Fire Department.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature performances by the Pine Level Elementary, Marbury Middle School, and Marbury High School choirs, along with the Marbury High School Band.

After the tree lighting, the community is invited to stay for a free outdoor showing of “The Grinch,” selected by Pine Level residents through a community vote.

Organizers say the event mirrors the spirit of the town’s October Spooktacular festival, which also focused on community giving. This year, Pine Level is partnering with the Autauga County Technology Center’s FCCLA student organization to support its annual toy drive, collecting new, unwrapped gifts for local foster children.

Families attending Hometown Christmas are also encouraged to bring a Christmas ornament to place on one of the Pine Level Community Center’s “family trees,” a tradition meant to represent and celebrate the community.

The Pine Level community enjoyed a night full of fun at the inaugural Spooktacular event held at the Pine Level Community Center. Carnival games, train rides, concessions, inflatables, music, balloon animals, and touch-a-truck vehicles were some of the highlights at the event.

“As we kicked off the Autumn season, this is the first spooktacular event at the Pine Level Community Center (PLCC), coordinated by the PLCC,” said Pine Level Mayor Zachary Bigley.

He continued, “The town is moving toward a greater partnership between us and them, and this is just the beginning of many exciting events aimed at serving our Pine Level residents and the surrounding areas. I have heard of more event ideas to come, and we are ready to take our community engagement to the next level. Get ready for Pine Level to go to the Next Level!”

The PLCC partnered with the Prattville Autauga Humane Society for this event. The community showed out by donating over 200 bags of cat and dog food, and monetary donations. For each donation, each guest received free carnival tickets to all the games.

“I am thrilled about the turnout for our inaugural Spooktacular, said Malorie Gray, Events Coordinator for the Pine Level Community Center. “It far exceeded my expectations, with approximately 800 to 1000 people who joined us to celebrate. It was truly an eye-opening and educational experience. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the businesses and vendors who participated by bringing games and providing all the prizes for our incredible community. We were able to donate $445 to PAHS and approximately 200 bags of dog food. It was truly an amazing night, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of everyone who stepped up and helped. I look forward to working with the Pine Level Community Center and the Town of Pine Level for our Hometown Christmas event. I hope everyone comes out to celebrate our next event!”

Many local and area businesses also donated prizes to give away for the Bingo games at the event. All proceeds from the concessions and bingo cards went towards the improvements to the Pine Level Community Center.

The Town of Pine Level made contribution presentations, Aug. 22, 2024, to the Pine Level Community Center (PLCC) and the Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department (PLVFD).

PLCC received $7,000 in funding. Of that amount, $6,000 will go toward critical roof repairs, and the remaining $1,000 will help offset operating costs, so the center can continue hosting community events.

“We just want to thank the Town of Pine Level for their contribution,” said Michael Petty, Director of PLCC. “We can’t wait for the future to come and to really be able to support and host our community.”

PLVFD received $33,000. These funds will be used to purchase life-saving medical equipment, including an AED and the necessary accessories for both adults and children. The grant will also cover specialized medical equipment for emergency response vehicles and a supply of essential single-use medical items.

“We respond to about 1,300 calls a year, with 80% of those being Emergency Medical Services,” said Austin Worchester, Chief of PLVFD. “This contribution will allow us to keep providing and improving that service.”

The Town of Pine Level is working to strengthen the bonds that bring neighbors together while also looking after the safety and well-being of its residents. Town leaders say the goal is to preserve the close-knit, small-town spirit Pine Level is known for, while continuing to support the people and services that keep the community safe, connected, and thriving.

“We hope to do more in the future, but we are thankful for what we can do today,” said Zachary Bigley, Mayor of Pine Level.

Around 60 people gathered for Pine Level’s first Community Input meeting recently at the Pine Level Community Center.

While Pine Level is the newest “official” town in Autauga County, the area itself has a lot of history, memories, and longtime residents had some ideas of how they would like to see the town grow. It was a dynamic group gathered from older young, and some great discussions were had in the two-hour meeting.

Pine Level now has an expanded area to grow now that Governor Kay Ivey has signed a bill allowing for annexation that includes the I-65 exit. It has long been named the Pine Level exit; it is just now officially part of a new town.

Residents took part in group discussions about what the assets are for the area, now, and what they envision 20 years from now. Ben Wiesman is planner and landscape architect. Matt Leavell is an architect and planning developer, and both men led groups at tables through discussions, questions and what the residents envision.

Weisman explained that state code provides that towns have a Comprehensive Plan/Master Plan. He said they were interested in getting public opinions, to help create a road map for the future, which is a living document. It can be changed over time, as the community grows. The more voices in the discussion, the better, he said.

Residents of Pine Level are the stakeholders and should have a strong voice in how the town develops, both men agreed.

Everyone participating discussed current assets of Pine Level, such as excellent schools, a great community, fire department, friendly people, social activities, engaged leadership, open land, history and the recent purchase of a new city hall.

They then talked about issues that could be better, such as more food options, traffic control at the 31/40 area, water utilities, beautification, job opportunities, ballparks, soccer field, or sports complexes. They would like to see a park with a pavilion, playground, a dog park and for local landowners being open to the development of their land. They said it would be nice to have their own post office.

This carried over to their vision of Pine Level 20 years from now, with an expanded fire department and police department, walking trails, alternate roads, controlled growth, shopping center and a modernized community center. Most importantly, they want the current community center to be saved for its historical benefit. The former school has many stories to tell, indeed.

All agreed that there is much history to be shared about the area. Town Clerk Theresa Cook spoke of her mother having memories of working in a nearby field. She recalls a band, including Hank Williams, Sr., performing at the present-day Pine Level Community Center many years ago and hearing the music. (If anyone has information on that, or photos, please contact the City of Pine Level.”

The next community input meeting will be June 19 at the Community Center, and some of those ideas of the future will be brought to life, thanks to the architects, planners and drawings of what Pine Level could include in the next few years.

The next meeting June 19 will begin to show the vision, and attendees were reminded this is a team effort. We will have more information as the meeting date draws closer, but we encourage anyone interested to attend and offer their thoughts.

Pine Level Mayor Zachary Taylor thanked the large crowd for attending, saying, “Thank you for your support. You have all stepped up and we are all trying to figure this out as we go. We are very excited about the future for all of us.”

Before a huge crowd this morning, First Community Bank broke ground on a new facility in the town limits of Pine Level. It is hoped to be operational later this year.

State, Prattville, Pine Level, banking and local officials joined in on the celebration of the newest business coming to Pine Level that officially came into existence as a town just two years ago.

Kristi Pieper welcomed the crowd, saying history continues to be made in Autauga County. Upon Pine Level’s incorporation, it marked the first new official town for the county in over 100 years. Pieper serves as the Director of Economic Development for Autauga County.

District 31 Representative Troy Stubbs also serves as the Financial Advisor and Manager of First Community Financial Services.

“Today I have the joy and privilege of seeing our bank grow,” Stubbs said, adding this is the bank’s ninth location. The bank was first established in 2001. “Community is not just being together, it is doing life together.”

Stubbs praised Rana Futral, President and CEO of First Community Bank. Stubbs said she is a visionary and has been with the organization for 20 years. He said she is one of two female CEOs of banks in the state. With that, he introduced Futral as the next to speak.

“We are the first bank, the first business to come to the Town of Pine Level. This is the first groundbreaking ceremony for the Town of Pine Level,” Futral said.

This bank will be the third location for First Community in Autauga County.

“We are so excited to be on the corner lot, and to be the epicenter for the growth of Pine Level.”

She introduced Tom Stackhouse, who serves as the President and CEO of Central Alabama Electric. Stackhouse was behind the creation of the Interstate Business Park which now falls in the boundaries of Pine Level where First Community Bank will soon be located.

“(Stackhouse) is a visionary as well. We would not be standing here today without his vision. Many years ago, when he saw this and said, ‘We are going to develop this and grow this’ and everyone else said, ‘Are you crazy?’ He stood his ground and said ‘We are going to do this’.”

She mentioned many others who have played a role in making the day possible expressing there are innumerable moving parts and relationships that makes dreams into reality.

With that, Tom Stackhouse addressed the crowd, touching on the vision of creating the Interstate Business Park, pointing out the spot where Central Alabama Electric Cooperative was once located.

As for the buildings currently in the park, he said everything is full. “We have helped build these buildings financially.”

He said that the groundbreaking for First Community Bank is on property that once was a field of watermelons.

“This land was very fertile. But the opportunity now is to grow jobs, to grow businesses that serve the community. To me, it is just a tremendous testament to what we can do.”

He said that in the early days, some did say the vision of the business park was crazy, but time has shown that the future is very bright.

Pine Level Mayor Zachary Bigley said, “This is awesome. What an extraordinary day this is.”

He said he was honored to be part of the first groundbreaking for the town. “Today is not just the turning of soil, but the planting of seeds for our town’s economic growth and community prosperity. First Community Bank is more than just a financial institution. It embodies the values of connection, support and investment in our shared future.”

He said the bank will serve as a confirmation that Pine Level is the fastest growing community in Autauga County, and he appreciates First Community investing in the town.

“Your vision and commitment will pave the way for countless opportunities. We are excited to welcome you to our community. As we break ground today let us also break open the doors of new possibilities. Let us envision a Pine Level where financial stability and growth are within reach of all of our residents. A Pine Level where our families can thrive, our businesses can flourish, and our community can come together to support one another. This groundbreaking is not just about bricks and mortar. It is about building relationships and strengthening the fabric of our community. It is about ensuring that Pine Level remains a place where everyone has a chance to succeed and prosper.”

Patty VanderWal is the President of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce which hosted today’s groundbreaking.

“This groundbreaking just shows a that a vision and partnerships working together to bring all of this to reality. It creates opportunities for growth, not only for investments it brings into Pine Level, but also the job creation that it is going to bring. It is paving the way for a bright future in this community.” VanderWal said First Community Bank has been a member of the Prattville Chamber for 20 years.

The Town of Pine Level is hoping House Bill 598 will soon move out of committee, go to the Senate and successfully pass. It would allow the new town to annex land up to the Pine Level Exit 186 at I-65 which could allow for future development.

The bill was originally sponsored Rep. Van Smith and co-sponsored by by Representatives Jerry Starnes and Kelvin Lawrence and introduced earlier this month. However, it has stalled for the moment in committee, as Rep. Starnes has not added his signature to the bill.

Pine Level Mayor Zachary Bigley posted this to the town’s social media April 25th, and it has caused quite a bit of controversy, particularly among Pine Level residents who want the annexation to move forward. The Autauga County Commission gave their approval of the annexation.

           “Dear Pine Level Community,

As the first elected official in our town’s history to face the voters, I am honored to have your trust as your Mayor. One of my primary goals has always been to secure the 186 exit for Pine Level.

To expedite this process, we initiated legislative annexation, targeting the area that includes the Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department’s 2nd station on the south side of I-65, along Highway 31. I’m excited to share that in March, I received a letter from the fire chief requesting their station be annexed into our town!

This exit has the potential to generate significant revenue for Pine Level, funding our roads, parks, volunteer fire department, elementary school, and community events. If we allow this opportunity to slip away, we risk losing that revenue to neighboring municipalities. We are the ones who navigate the traffic on Highway 31 daily; we are the heart of this community.

With an incredible team of volunteers, we had the privilege of engaging with residents, landowners, and business owners in the proposed annexation area. The support from both sides of Highway 31 has been overwhelmingly positive! Leveraging that momentum, we collaborated with our state representative and senator, and I humbly presented our annexation advertising request to the Autauga County Commissioners, who unanimously approved it in accordance with Alabama code.

After fulfilling all requirements and advertising for the necessary four weeks, the local legislative annexation bill HB598 was introduced in the House, co-sponsored by all three state representatives from Autauga County. Once it clears the House, it will head to the Senate, paving the way for Pine Level to finally secure the 186 exit!

However, we’ve encountered a setback. One representative chose to consult with the mayor of another municipality before signing the bill, and unfortunately, that mayor did not support our plans. Consequently, the representative opted not to sign the bill he initially co-sponsored.

Let me clarify: Pine Level respects our neighbors and has no intention of infringing on Prattville’s jurisdiction. Our focus has been solely on our community, working with the 2nd Pine Level Fire Department station.

I’ve been advised to give a courtesy call to Prattville’s Mayor, but I’ve never received one regarding their actions. It seems these unwritten rules apply uniquely to Pine Level’s mayor!

We’re not looking for conflict. This appears to be a power move, especially with elections approaching. Your Pine Level council is dedicated to serving our community for the next four years, regardless of who holds office, as volunteers.

Pine Level has been overlooked and disrespected for too long. I’ve defended our town against disrespect on numerous occasions, and now our future prosperity rests in the hands of a single representative from Prattville. I have heard directly that Prattville has plans for exit 186.

Mr. Starnes is deliberating his decision until Tuesday. I sincerely hope he chooses to support Pine Level. It’s crucial that those who don’t reside in our area do not dictate our future.

I’m asking you to stand with me and let Mr. Starnes know that signing this bill is the right thing to do. If he chooses not to sign, we deserve transparency regarding his decision.

Politics can be challenging, but this situation is unnecessary. If the exit is blocked, it will remain dark and unlit, preventing Pine Level from receiving the full tax revenue that would benefit our community. This is not the future we want for our town!

Let’s give Pine Level the chance to thrive! If you truly support us, prove it by passing this bill!

The Elmore Autauga News reached out to Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie about the issue.

According to Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie, he was unaware of the plan for Pine Level to annex all the way to the Pine Level Exit. He said he talked to Representative Jerry Starnes because he wants to know more about the plan.

“I was not aware of the plan. I asked for a map of the area, but I am very perplexed by the map,” Gillespie said. “I need information to provide to the Council to make them aware. Some of the information that has been put out there is inaccurate. I am just trying to gather the facts and figure out what (Pine Level’s) plans are.”

Gillespie continued, saying, “I have never disrespected or overlooked Pine Level. I have friends in that area. We have sent our first responders there to provide services for fires, ambulances, and accidents many times.”

Gillespie said it is common knowledge that Prattville’s growth would be north. “That has been the talk for decades. But as a city, I am not aware of a plan that says we will come up there and lay a flag or put up a hotel. Professional courtesy works both ways. We have asked for a map. I have talked to Mayor Bigley, and said I need information to provide to the council to make them aware. Some information out there is inaccurate. I am simply trying to gather the facts and figure out what their plans are. I did call the mayor and he returned that call. I wish he would share those plans they have for 186. If I had been made aware of this, (Mayor Bigley) could have explained a lot of this, and cut down on the negative press we are getting. Sometimes the big guy is not always the bad guy. Saying the exit is blocked is not accurate. The exit is not blocked.”

We reached out to Representative Starnes as well, asking for a statement.

He said, “I want to clarify that I have not rescinded my support for Pine Level’s annexation. Throughout this process, I recognized the importance of extending professional courtesy to Mayor Bill Gillespie by informing him about the proposal. In response, he requested time to conduct his due diligence on the matter. Having served on the Prattville City Council for ten years, I have long viewed this annexation as an important step for the City of Prattville. However, during my tenure as a State Representative, the incorporation of the Town of Pine Level has significantly reshaped the landscape of that exit, introducing new considerations into the discussion.”

At issue, is time. If Starnes does not sign the bill, it could very well die this legislative session, and time is running out officials have told us.

We received another statement from Pine Level Mayor Bigley after our first conversation that reads, “If (Starnes) doesn’t sign by Tuesday, it may not have enough time to go through the Senate chamber before this session ends. Representative Starnes stands on the brink of history, poised to be forever etched in the memories of the people of Pine Level as the hero who signed for our success and prosperity for our burgeoning town in Autauga County. When future generations turn to the history books to learn about our town’s founding days, they will find the Rep. Jerry Starnes’ signature on this pivotal bill and it could mark him as the hero of Pine Level’s triumphs.
Conversely, his failure to endorse this measure could cast a shadow over his legacy, branding him as the individual who stifled our growth, denied Pine Level Elementary the funding it desperately needs, and obstructed our fledgling town’s ability to improve the vital infrastructure for the 11,000 residents who rely on Highway 31 daily. May (Starnes) choose to be remembered as the champion of Pine Level when the pages of history are written.”

We have reached out to other officials as well regarding this proposed bill and will add their comments when available.

This year, the Town of Pine Level is in the business of making history as they navigate being a freshly incorporated town. Being a brand-new town, that means this year is full of firsts, including the first ever Pine Level Christmas Parade.

A crowd flocked to the county road where vendors, food trucks and other holiday festivities were in the parking lot of Spirit Walk Ministries, ready to spread holiday cheer. Parade goers dressed in red, white and blue and lined the county road in anticipation.

“The community has responded amazingly to all the historic firsts this year. Our town is small, but our community is big. They have given us a lot of grace as we are putting forth the effort to make Pine Level feel like small town America,” Pine Level mayor Zachary Bigley said.

Bigley stated that their goal is to establish traditions for generations to come so that the Mayor, the town and community will have traditions to look back on and follow in 50 or 100 years from now.

The first grand marshal for the Pine Level Christmas Parade is longtime resident Robert Kohn. He is 102 years young, a World War II veteran and has been intricately interwoven into Autauga County and the Pine Level community for decades.

While this is the first Christmas parade for Pine Level, Bigley confirmed that it definitely takes a village to be able to facilitate an event like this.

“I don’t want to leave anyone out, but the biggest shoutout goes to our Town Clerk Theresa Cook. She has a lot on her plate with all the administrative work our town has, plus she is carrying multiple roles that other municipalities have people to do. It’s all hands-on deck for Pine Level right now. Our volunteer group is amazing! Our parking coordinator! All the businesses and organizations that participate are also amazing,” Bigley said.

Bigley went on to thank the community and members of the town for their dedication and support not only in the planning, but for those that helped spread the word and attended the historic event.

“Merry Christmas Pine Level!” Bigley said.

at 6 p.m. at the Pine Level Community Center as the official Pine Level Day. The day marks the one year anniversary of when Pine Level voted to make the Town of Pine Level official, Bigley confirmed.

“The honorable Judge Kim Kervin officially declared the town incorporated on October 17, 2023. But Sept 26 is the chosen date as Pine Level’s birthday as that’s the day the people voted to make our community an official Incorporated Town,” Bigley said.

Bigley also confirmed that this will be an annual event for the town in celebration of not only the citizens but the continued progress the town makes.

“This celebration measures growth, it’s an accomplishment of building a lasting foundation and it celebrates the hard work that it takes for a town to be a reality,” Bigley said.

The Marbury Northstar Concert Band, as well as the Pine Level Community choir, will be performing. Elected officials, special guests and the community are invited to attend.

“Everything is historic, because it’s the first year and new for us. When looking at everything we need to accomplish, it has the potential to look overwhelming, but then I remember when it comes to town building, time is on our side. All the projects and to-do lists will never stop. But one of the greatest things I’ve learned is that patience is the key. It’s ok to not rush things and to make sure they’re done right,” Bigley said.

Bigley stated that members of his council, the town clerk, lawyers and volunteers have really stepped up to the plate to ensure the vision of the Town of Pine Level has the structure and potential to prosper and grow for the future. He wants it to be where everyone in the community has a voice for the Town of Pine Level.

“Good leadership serves the people they are leading. So being a part of leading a town where we can help create a place that citizens lives are a little more safe, a little more prosperous, a little more convenient and little more peaceful, then life is better for us all. My role in this season as mayor is to help lay a foundation for the next generation in Pine Level 20-40 years from now. That is rewarding,” Bigley said.

The town of Pine Level made history Saturday morning with their first ever Independence Day parade and celebration off of County Road 107. The fun continues tonight at 8:30 p.m. when Boones Chapel Church will host a spectacular fireworks show.

“This is just an amazing day for the community. I’m so proud of the turnout. My son is a firefighter with Pine Level and I’m just so proud, everyone was so excited for this. People brought their families, dogs and they brought their hearts. “This is just a monumental moment,” long time Pine Level resident Linda Phillips said.

A crowd flocked to the county road where vendors, food trucks, bouncy houses and other patriotic festivities were in the parking lot of Spirit Walk Ministries. Parade goers dressed in red, white and blue and lined the county road in anticipation.

“One of our councilmen stopped counting at 400 cars. We were not expecting this great of a turnout. I’m really proud of the town and community for coming together to make this happen, and I just want to thank everyone for coming out and having fun with us here in the town of Pine Level,” Pine Level mayor Zachary Bigley said.

The parade had over 20 entries, where participants threw everything from delicious candy, 4th of July pinwheels, red white and blue popsicles, to strategically bagged produce from ZannaBella Farm.

Smiles and laughter were wide and loud as the parade rolled through, led by the first ever grand marshal for the town of Pine Level, Norma Cothran. Cothran was selected in honor of her late husband James Micheal Cothran, or Mickey as everyone knew him, who served briefly on the Pine Level City Council before his sudden passing in January.

Mickey was a huge advocate for the incorporation of the town of Pine Level and served on the Pine Level City Council. Norma stated that Mickey took his research and responsibility of being a councilman and an advocate for the incorporation seriously and to heart.

“I have the ‘Miss America wave’ down, and all I can say is it’s just absolutely awesome to represent our little community that I’ve been a part of for so long. But it also means that I have lost the love of my life. However, on the other side of this, I am just so honored that I get to represent Mickey,” Norma said.

As the parade rolled on to Spirit Walk Ministries, vendors, inflatable bounce houses and Top Notch BBQ, Woody’s Italian Ice, El Mariachi, Norris Concessions, River Region SNOBIZ and SUGA’S Lemonade carried the freedom party on well after the parade was finished.

The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, Autauga County Commission and the Town of Pine Level celebrated the announcement and groundbreaking of Pine Level Park last Saturday.

“This area has waited for around 12 years for this. We have one ball field for around 19 teams in the fastest growing area in Autauga County. The new Pine Level Park gives hope to our community and to our future,” Pine Level Mayor Zachary Bigley said.

Local kids along with state and elected officials helped to break ground for the monumental event Saturday morning, where in the near future, the children of Pine Level will be playing and building new memories and a sense of community on the very grounds of the newly constructed park.

Among those elected officials to help break ground were State Representative Jerry Starnes and Van Smith, Autauga County Commissioner and Chairman Jay Thompson, Commissioner Bill Tatum and Commissioner Larry Stoudemire, Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley, Pine Level Mayor Bigley and president of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce Patty VanderWal, among many others.

“This park is where families will be spending time together. Good memories will be made. Cheers, victories, life lessons and hanging out with friends. This ballpark will help create a community,” Bigley said.

Bigley then went on to thank the Autauga County Commissioners, and all the partners that helped make the project for Pine Level a reality. Some of the partners to turn this into a reality are the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission, the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, the Land and Water Conservation Fund as well as the Mid-South RC&D Council.

The town of Pine Level has officially filled the vacant City Council seat that has been vacant for just over one month. Pine Level Mayor Zahary confirmed Jae Gray as the newest member of the Pine Level City Council.

“With Mr. Gray’s appointment and our council seats are now full, the town can move forward into the future in helping lay the foundation for the town of Pine Level, Alabama,” Bigley said.

The seat was formerly held by the late James (Micky) Cothran, before his abrupt passing at the start of the year in mid-January. At the council meetings last month, the council left an open seat for Cothran to commemorate his work for the incorporation and his love for the town of Pine Level.

“The vacant seat left by Micky Cothran who unexpectedly passed earlier this year was an unfortunate hurdle this council has had to navigate,” Bigley said.

Cothran played an inaugural role in the incorporation of Pine Level, and even after with his short time serving on the council.

However, now with the seat filled by Gray, the town can move forward with business while also honoring Cothran’s enthusiasm for the newly incorporated town.

There were two indicated provisional votes in the Pine Level Election that officials and the board of registrars are still investigating.

“For our office it’s a tedious process but we enjoyed working with them and I look forward to seeing the good things that will happen in Pine Level. It’s really neat to see that part of history,” Kervin said.

Bigley was a big advocate for the Pine Level incorporation and was on the committee to make Pine Level an official town.

“We have a lot to learn, it’s a new town, a brand-new council and a group of people that are volunteering their time and navigating the first steps. We’re new but were moving forward and learning as we go,” Bigley said.

This will be a two-year term for the newly elected mayor and councilmen, and Pine Level will follow the municipal schedule in terms of a 2025 election, Bigley confirms.

“It’s a lot of foundation that we are going to be laying in the first two years. Lord willing, Pine Level will be around 200-300 years from now. These first two years are going to be so instrumental to laying the first foundation for our future. It’s important that we take our time, we don’t get into a big rush and we help lay that foundation for the future,” Bigley said.

The Pine Level Town Council swearing in ceremony will be Monday, Dec. 11th at the Pine Level Community Center.

Weary souls in Prattville and Millbrook who need their morning pick-me-up have enjoyed the opportunity to get it at Ellianos Coffee in their respective areas, but as of about three weeks ago, Pine Level residents with sleepy eyes can do the same.

“We have had individuals tell us that they would like to see an Ellianos up in the Pine Level area, but the owner of the Piggly Wiggly is responsible for sparking the idea of putting an Ellianos in that location,” said owner Lori Walter. “Ellianos seeks to serve local customers and this location certainly met that standard.”

According to Walter, Ellianos Prattville was opened in January of 2018 and it was the first Ellianos to open in Alabama. The Prattville store was store number 12 in the franchise. The Millbrook store opened in December 2020 and Ellianos Pine Level just opened on April 4 of this year. At this time, these are the only Ellianos in Alabama and all others are located in Florida and Georgia.

“We discovered Ellianos on a trip to Florida during a stop in Lake City,” Walter said as she explained the business’ history. “We were impressed with the quality of the product and the service we received. After reading about Ellianos on their website, we discovered that they franchise. Steve (Walter) has an entrepreneurial spirit and decided to research what it would take to open a franchise here in our area. We visited all of the Ellianos on the map at that time and visited with many of the owners of the other franchises to get a true idea of what is involved in opening and running an Ellianos.”

After the success of the Prattville store, the Walters hired an operations manager to help manage the potential of more growth.

“Jered (Jones) joined Ellianos in January 2020 and is now the Operations Manager for all of the stores, including Prattville, Millbrook, Pine Level, and the future location in Clanton,” Walter said. “We are very pleased with the experience and commitment he has brought with him. We are proud of the leadership and enthusiasm he brings to all of the teams at each location.”

Jones came to Ellianos because of what he saw in the coffee and the commitment of its owners.

“The quality of the product was the whole reason I wanted to come onboard,” said Jones. “I knew that the coffee industry was growing and I already had experience with Ellianos before they ever came to Prattville. I have family that live in Kingsley, Georgia where they have a location so I’ve known about them for eight, maybe 10 years. The fact that they came to my hometown and then I get to work here, it’s kind of full circle.”

The Ops Manager added that there are some good reasons Ellianos is growing so quickly in the area.

“It’s growing for a couple of reasons,” he said. “Number one, it’s a really high-quality product. Two, the business model is ideal for people that are on the go. I thought that our area could support more than just Prattville and they’ve shown that, and they’ve shown it well.”

Jones points to a high-quality staff as well.

“All the staff does a really good job of taking care of the customers in a timely manner and we’re only going to get better the longer we are here,” he commented. “I’m proud of all our staff. Customer service is one of the hardest industries to be in.”

Walter sees all three stores, and any that open in the future, as being part of the Ellianos community.

“We consider Prattville and Millbrook to be our home community and we definitely see Pine Level as part of our community,” she said. “We believe Pine Level will continue to grow and prosper, and we hope to be able to serve and inspire those that will be there for all that is in the future ahead.”

Pine Level Incorporation: Public Meeting Planned for Tuesday To Answer Questions

The public is invited to participate in a meeting Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Marbury High School cafeteria which is expected to be a standing room only crowd. The meeting has been called to answer questions about the possibility of incorporating the Pine Level area of Autauga County as a municipality.

The Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission (CARPDC) will lead the meeting with a presentation on incorporation and what it would mean for Pine Level. There will be a question-and-answer forum at the end of the meeting. Pine Level is growing rapidly and incorporation is necessary so that the area is not annexed by a neighboring city, according to the two organizers of the drive.

Larry Deavers and Ken Hollon (above) grew up in the Pine Level community and say they now see subdivisions and business being constructed throughout the area. “Why do we need incorporation?” Deavers asked. “The growth of our community has been steady. We have Landmark Signs coming in to manufacture signs, Ace Hardware, Ellianos Coffee, Piggly Wiggly and many more. Our area is growing so fast and we have subdivisions everywhere.”

A large tract of land north of I-65 has been sold for construction of new housing. The County is also extending sewer lines down to I-65 including going under the interstate which will make the area a prime choice for commercial development. Schools in the area are expanding, with Pine Level Elementary School alone serving more than 950 students.

“Annexation is much easier than incorporation,” Hollon said. “Prattville is already looking at the general area around the 31/65 Interchange. If that happens, it will be a big loss for the county.” An incorporated place is a geographic area with legally defined municipal boundaries under Alabama laws.

Incorporated places are established to provide governmental functions for a population

typically with elected officials and the means to provide local municipal services such as water, sanitation, schools and police departments.

Annexation is the legal process that transfers property from an unincorporated unit of government to an incorporated one. It is how territory in a town is transferred to a contiguous city or village.

Hollon said incorporation is a lengthy process and there must be at least 300 people in the area to be incorporated. “We want the citizens who live in the area to draw the lines,” he said.

He said that after 300 names are recorded, 60 percent of all the people who live in the incorporated area must sign a petition that will be sent to the Probate Judge. The judge will then schedule a vote of the people.

Hollon said after a town is established, different areas can request to be included through the process of annexation. For example, the Town of Pike Road incorporated with a population of 300 people and now has 16,000 residents

Deavers said no lines have been drawn yet and the purpose of the Tuesday night meeting is to educate people on what could happen and what the area’s residents should do going forward.

“We want people to come with an open mind, listen carefully and then make up their minds,” Deavers said. “Come to the meeting regardless of how you feel and listen to what CARPDC has to say and the responsibilities we would have as a community.”

Hollon said there is no hidden agenda. “The people involved have lived in this community for many years. Most graduated from Marbury High School, their kids graduated from Marbury, and they now have grandchildren at one of the three schools,” he said.

The Town of Pine Level marks two years since its incorporation and celebrates the opening of its Town Hall, Sept. 26, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

What was once a modest home at 121 County Road 40 East has been transformed into the heart of local government, now housing the mayor and town clerk’s office, council chambers, and a meeting space where the community’s future will be shaped.

“Today is not just about this building,” said Stacy Little, Chairman-elect for the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce. “It’s about the years of hard work, the determination, and the dedication of so many people who believed in what Pine Level could become.”

Officially incorporated by Judge Kim Kervin on Oct. 17, 2023, Pine Level celebrates its anniversary on Sept. 26th every year, as that is the date in 2023 that its people voted to make their community an officially incorporated town.

“It’s been two decades since our first attempt to incorporate Pine Level as a town, and while the timing may not have been right then, we stand here today as underdogs,” said Zachary Bigley, Mayor of Pine Level. “We are forging a path here in Pine Level driven by our beliefs and our dream for a brighter future.”
